Central Line placed

Collin had a central line placed yesterday in preparation for starting chemo today. The surgical team called before to say they may have to cancel the procedure as there would not be a room as the hospital is too full. We explained that Collin was already admitted and they happily put him back on the schedule. Collin ate all the way until midnight the night before knowing he wouldn't get breakfast. He was still up because his nighttime med schedule is pretty heavy. He didn't sleep well as he was worried about the surgery. We started yesterday at 6:00 am by watching Super Hero Squad to get his mind off his anxieties. The surgery went well and the PICC line was pulled out while he was still asleep. He woke up from the surgery very bothered by the central line. In fact, it was a cranky day. He had a rough spell where he was disappointed that the central line was so long and big and felt intrusive. I am sure that it gets better as he gets used to it. He is mad that this is all happening and after 8 weeks I would say he is due to be mad. He has been sad before and contemplative but I think he is finally fed up. However, he kicked out of it for a few minutes to do magic tricks with the nurses. We know that the next couple of weeks will be rough for him from the side effects of chemo. We are gearing up to begin the long process.

Dear Collin & Catrina,
We are cheering for you on your Quest! Lots of us are praying for you all the time. We are constantly reminding Heavenly Father to take special care of you. All quests have their difficult and scary tasks, but the hero just keeps trying.
After surgery it's normal to be cranky, sometimes the anesthesia just makes it harder to be kind to those who are not in the hospital bed.
I have read your entire blog so far and I am so proud of you and your triumphs. When it gets too hard, think of Jesus and know that he is your best friend to help you keep going forward. We miss seeing you in Sacrament Meeting as we always sit behind your family and you and Kira are so sweet to each other.
Catrina, stay hydrated and nourished and remember the walking path up behind the hospital. Our whole family loves and is praying and mindful of yours. Trudy Ovard and Family.
